Announcement Related to Students Who Will Perform CE 399 and/or CE 499 summer Practices May 2016

 

Attention to the Students who will do Summer Internship

  1. In order to be eligible for graduation, the students of Department of Civil Engineering, Atilim University must complete two summer internships, one at the end of the 4th semester (CE 399) and the other at the end of the 6th semester (CE 499).
  2. The first summer internship (CE 399) must be done in a construction site and the second summer internship (CE 499) in an office.
  3. The duration of internship is minimum 30 business days. You may use "Internship Dates Calculation" application to check the duration of your internship.
  4. Students may ask any question about summer internship to the internship coordinator of the department. Instructor Burak Sahin is the Internship Coordinator of the Department this year.
  5. Students must have a passing grade (minimum FD) from CE 201 and CE 210 in order to be eligible to take CE 399 “Summer Practice I” and CE 499 “Summer Practice II” courses.
  6. The students who completed their summer internship must register in CE 399 / 499 Summer Practice I / II courses in the fall semester following their internship.
  7. Pursuant to Social Insurances and General Health Law, Occupational Accident and Disease insurance of the students who will carry out their compulsory summer internship must be granted by our University. General Health Insurances of the students who are not including within the coverage of General Health Insurance because of their mother or father are granted by our University, as well. It shall not be possible to start internship before the completion of insurance procedures.

 
Necessary Documents:
Documents required for summer internship (for Occupational Accident and Disease Insurance):

  1.  Internship Acceptance Document which is signed by the chief to whom the intern will report. The document must include the information about the organization, exact beginning and end dates, weekly working hours and days.  (2 copies)
  2. Duplex copy of identity card (1 copy)
  3. 1 photograph
  4. Intern Student Information Form (2 copies) (Hard and soft copies of this document shall be submitted to Assistant of the Dep. Of Civ. Eng. Cumhur Ozbey (cumhur.ozbey@atilim.edu.tr). Hard copy of the document must be signed in two copies).


Stages of Internship Application

  1. Students are required to submit the documents required for insurance to the internship coordinator of the department at least 10 days before the beginning date of the internship.
  2. The documents shall be submitted to the Assistant of the Dep. Of Civ. Eng. Cumhur Ozbey.
  3. After these documents are submitted to the internship coordinator of the department, students must go to the Directorate of Personnel Affairs 2-3 days before the beginning date of internship to sign employment contract. The students will be eligible to start internship after they submit the statement of employment to the workplace. The student who cannot receive the statement of employment in person, can get the document through e-mail upon their request. In addition, workplaces can display the document on SSI system.
  4. The students who complete abovementioned stages will be given an internship evaluation form in a closed envelope. The envelope shall be submitted to the organization in which the student will do internship.
  5. At the end of the internship, the organization shall fill out the stamped internship evaluation form and submit it to the internship coordinator through the student or mail in a closed envelope.   6. In the cases where internship evaluation form is not delivered to the department or the chief of the intern expressed adverse opinions in the form, the student must do the internship again.
  7. After completion of the summer internship, students should begin writing the Summer Internship Report and submit the report to the internship coordinator on the announced dates at the beginning of the fall semester.
  8. The "Internship Guide" has been prepared to make your internship more informative and self-improving. At the same time, this document is offered to students in order to contribute to the preparation of Internship Report content.
  9. Internship reports should include the internship cover page and should be written with a word processor, preferably Microsoft Word, depending on the report writing principles found in the “Guidelines and Format of the Report” document available in the internship page of the department.
  10. During the Fall Semester, the students will share their internship experiences with their instructors with a presentation.


Other Information:
 
It is possible to do internship for maximum 6 days in a week.
 
It is possible to do internship along with summer school. Each course taken in summer school is corresponds to two days and they are excluded on the days when you can do the internship in relevant week. In other words, the internship will be counted over four days, if the student takes a course in summer school and has an internship during summer school. In other words, the internship will be counted over two days, if the student takes two courses in summer school and has an internship during summer school. The student who takes three courses in summer school will not be able to do internship during summer school. Internship dates must be calculated according to this information and documents must be arranged accordingly.
 
CE 399 and CE 499 internships cannot be done in the same company.

The students who send internship application documents through facsimile are required to submit the original copies when they come to sign the employment contract.

It is also possible to start internship just after the end of final exams. However, as stated above, “these students are required to submit all documents related to internship to the internship coordinator of the department at least 10 days before the beginning date of the internship”.
