Civil engineering is a well-established profession that covers constructing activities in order to meet the vital needs of humanity such as "shelter - transportation - defense - nutrition". Planning, construction and operation of these vital needs are usually carried out by civil engineers. It is possible to give many examples for these professional activities affecting human life of modern societies and taking a leading role in the sustainable development of modern societies and historical great civilizations. Historical pyramids, water channels, ports, bridges, roads, airports, dams, hydroelectric power plants, drinking water and sewage systems, irrigation and drying structures, residential buildings, shopping centers and factories are among important construction works. Such complex system of structures should be robust, aesthetic, economic, maintenance friendly, practical and facilitative and correct the basic problems in the right way, as well. In this context, civil engineering is one of the professions where theory and practice overlap.

It is the size and complexity of the investment projects that are important for civil engineering.  Today, a large part of the budgets of Directorate General of State Hydraulic Works, General Directorate of Highways, General Directorate of Railways Harbors and Airports Construction and other important government investment institutions are allocated for the projects mentioned above. A second point we can deduce is the importance of the construction industry and civil engineers in the development of the country. In order to be an engineer who is competent and sought in this field, students should aim at "good and correct learning" instead of "studying for good grades" in university education, and “observing every event and questioning what is wrong with the information given in the course”. Remember, a civil engineer's mistake may cause a great loss of life and property.

Universities that provide civil engineering education are increasing throughout the country. However, there are some differences. Besides the competence and skills of instructors, the adequacy of laboratories and experiment sets, effectiveness of teaching system, accessibility to instructors and student motivation arising in the context of love - respect - interest - knowledge are among the factors creating difference. Within this context, Department of Civil Engineering, Atilim University is among the departments, which provide the best undergraduate education, thanks to student - instructor connection and the competence of relevant elements enhancing the quality of education. In undergraduate education given in English, the most modern books and technical facilities are utilized to raise graduates who are equipped enough to do business all over the world. In particular, we believe that we have provided a quality education with a generally young academic staff having

doctoral degree from our country and the distinguished universities of the United States. Our country will get the best of the participation of our young civil engineers who improve themselves with the vision to design competent, occupational, environmentally sensitive, sound - aesthetic - economic constructions.

Having been contributing education since 2001, Department of Civil Engineering, Atilim University continues providing education supported with intense and continuous feedbacks given by our graduates and employers in its development process. In order to prove its development and quality of education, our department is making efforts to apply to national and international accreditation bodies. In these years of trying to create a brand, we would like to embrace young students who want to be civil engineers in an educational environment that can offer the warmth of a family without compromising from quality. We extend our love and wish success and happiness to all of the young who are the assurance of our future.
