Objective: This course provides an introduction to the fundamental principles of soil mechanics and the behavior of engineering soils. Students will also gain experience in the analysis of geotechnical applications such as retaining walls, slope stability problems etc.
Content: Site investigations and subsurface explorations, origin of soil and grain size soil formation, weight-volume relationships, plasticity and structure of soil, engineering classification of soil, analysis of deformation and settlement, soil compaction, permeability, seepage, in situ stresses, stresses in a soil mass.
