Objective: To study the properties and behavior of commonly used materials in civil engineering applications. To expose the students to the standard specifications and methods of test for inspection and control of civil engineering materials. To design a concrete mix. To gain experience in the preparation of technical reports.
Content: Physical, mechanical and durability properties of concrete, metals, building stones, clay products, timber, gypsum, lime, aggregates, pozzolans, cements; production types, uses in construction of these materials; constituents, theories of mix design, principal steps in production and relevant properties of concrete.
